I’m Sorry
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry for how the religion of my childhood has affected you. I’m sorry for at one point being the one who made you feel worthless and alone. I’m sorry that people who claim Christ are reveling in evil, that their hearts are so closed off that they will not see the harm they do.
I’m sorry for a president who is a bully and a man child. Someone who only cares about himself, and control. I’m sorry that people who taught me to love others and Jesus with my whole heart tell you you are going to burn in hell for eternity for not believing exactly like them. How dare they claim to know who God does and does not accept.
I’m sorry for a Bible that was pieced together by men who claimed they knew the mind of Christ without leading with love. I’m sorry for the misinterpretations that have led to death, destruction, control, hatred, fear, spiritual torture, segregation, and just pure evil. A “Christianity” that has always been a dark part of American history.
I want to tell you, you are not alone. The God who created you, loves you, FOR YOU. You are not “fallen” or “sinful.” Sure, we make mistakes, we hurt people at times, but we apologize, move past it and do our best to do better the next time. The Jesus of the Bible calls us to radical love, not radical dogma and religiosity.
So call me a heretic, tell me I’ve strayed from the path, tell me I’m turning from God…if that’s what you need to tell yourself to sleep at night. I will never return to the religiosity and the CULT of evangelical Christianity, because I found Jesus. I found Jesus where they told me not to look, I see God daily in the lives of the LGBTQIA+, in the immigrants, the marginalized, the ones they want us to fear.
Here’s to you conservatives and evangelicals…Jesus is calling, will you listen? Or continue in your shallow faith?
